Pralidoxime (2-PAM)

Mode Of Action

Pralidoxime (2-PAM) reactivates cholinesterases (and other enzymes such as neurotoxic target esterase and pseudocholinesterase) inactivated by organophosphates. It is also thought to bind directly to organophosphates

Drug Indication Organophosphate poisoning (normally used with atropine)
Precautions Reduced dose in renal disorders
Side Effects Nausea, weakness, diplopia, blurred vision, mild neuromuscular blockade
Dosage Adult: IV, 2g initially then 500 mg/hr IV infusion. Child:IV, 50 mg/kg initially then 20mg/kg/hr IV infusion
